Google has a new overhauled search algorithm in what will be their biggest update since 2009. This major push completely revamped the way the engine finds what you’re looking for and serves you what it thinks are the most relevant answers. Whenever Google updates their algorithm, all manner of SEO managers and technologists begin frantically trying to discern the new rules and increase their rankings. So what do you need to do to get ready for this update? Nothing. Google quietly implemented the updates weeks ago.
Called “Hummingbird,” the update is aimed at improving the engine’s reaction time and accuracy to full questions. This is an improvement over the last system of searching word-by-word. Hummingbird is also able to identify and rank answers to those questions from the content they’ve indexed. All told, this update will affect around 90% of searches on the web according to Google.
If you haven’t noticed a dramatic change in your page’s rankings in the last two weeks, you likely won’t. With the update being live already for some time now, any page that would have benefited or suffered under the new algorithm would have done so already.
